An Instant Library Of Classic Literature! - Includes All 16 Uniformly Bound Unabridged Volumes

"This attractive 16-volume collection of classic literature was published by Heron Books of London circa 1968 and brings together a substantial selection of enduring works by some of the greatest names in English-language literature. The collection ranges from Dickens, Stevenson, Thackeray and Trollope to Swift, Wilde, Collins, Fielding, Goldsmith and Smollett, providing an exceptionally broad survey of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century fiction. All sixteen volumes are unabridged, with The History of Tom Jones presented as a complete two-volume set.

Among the highlights are Charles Dickens' Great Expectations, R. L. Stevenson's Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde, R. D. Blackmore's Lorna Doone, Wilkie Collins' The Woman in White, William Makepeace Thackeray's Vanity Fair, Anthony Trollope's Barchester Towers, Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels and Oscar Wilde's Stories. These are joined by The Vicar of Wakefield together with She Stoops to Conquer & Poems by Oliver Goldsmith, Mr Midshipman Easy by Captain Marryat, Samuel Butler's The Way of All Flesh, Charles Kingsley's Westward Ho!, Tobias Smollett's Humphrey Clinker and W. H. Ainsworth's Windsor Castle. With individual volumes running to more than 600 pages, this is a genuinely substantial library rather than a collection of abbreviated editions.

A major attraction of the Heron Books series is its handsome uniform decorative binding. Each volume is bound in dark blue/black material with elaborate gilt ornamentation to the spine and boards, gilt lettering and complementary decorative endpapers, producing an impressive appearance when displayed together. The photographs show the particularly attractive effect of the sixteen matching volumes arranged as a library, while the page edges have developed the warm, mellow toning characteristic of books now approaching sixty years old. The volumes also retain their original ribbon markers, with some visible at the upper or lower edges.

Published mainly in England by Heron Books, London, circa 1968, this is an excellent opportunity to acquire an instant library of classic literature in one consistent and highly decorative format. Rather than assembling mismatched individual editions, the buyer receives sixteen substantial, uniformly bound volumes encompassing some of the most celebrated novels and stories in the English literary canon. Equally suitable for reading, collecting or furnishing a traditional library or study, the set has tremendous shelf presence and represents an appealing combination of literary substance and decorative bookbinding."
