By Paul White

With Original Clipped Dustjackets

" Offered here are two genuine first-edition novels from Paul White's celebrated Jungle Doctor series: Jungle Doctor To The Rescue, first published in 1951, and Jungle Doctor Looks For Trouble, first published in September 1953. Both were issued in London by The Paternoster Press and retain their original price-clipped pictorial dustjackets. White was an Australian missionary doctor, broadcaster and author whose experiences in Tanganyika—now mainland Tanzania—inspired this enduring series of African medical adventures.

In Jungle Doctor To The Rescue, Simba and Perisi return alongside Daudi, Sechelela, Mwendwa, Sulimani and the Jungle Doctor. Their efforts to improve health and establish a hospital encounter determined opposition involving poison, fire, violence and threats against Perisi's newborn child. Combining danger, medical work, humour and Christian teaching, the novel extends across 120 pages and is accompanied by 31 black-and-white illustrations by Helen M. Gilham, together with illustrated map endpapers depicting Tanganyika Territory and the surrounding region.

Jungle Doctor Looks For Trouble follows the Jungle Doctor and his medical team into another succession of emergencies involving a hostile village, surgery, dangerous local rivalries and a desperate race to save lives. The story combines practical medicine and fast-moving adventure with White's characteristic humour and Christian message. This 121-page first edition contains 27 black-and-white illustrations by Graham Wade and illustrated map endpapers. First editions of these much-loved Australian-authored stories are particularly appealing when found with their original colourful dustjackets, making this an attractive matched pair for collectors of juvenile adventure fiction, missionary literature and vintage Africana.
