Victoria Australia - State Of The Golden Future
A Pictorial Record of its Resources and Development
Published by The Australian Publicity Council: Victorian Division c1950 1st Edition (undated)
In Original Spiral Bound Presentation With Stunning Australian Flag On Back Cover

"Published circa 1950 by the Victorian Division of the Australian Publicity Council, Victoria Australia—State of the Golden Future is an impressive pictorial survey of Victoria at the beginning of the post-war era. Produced to promote the state internationally, the publication presents Victoria as a prosperous and progressive destination for migrants, investors and commercial enterprise. Introductory statements by Prime Minister Robert Menzies and Victorian Premier John G. B. McDonald reflect the optimism and ambition surrounding Australia's economic expansion during this important period.

Across approximately 80 generously illustrated pages, the work examines Victoria's natural resources, primary production and rapidly developing industries. Individual sections cover water, timber, minerals, wool, wheat, dairying, beef, fruit-growing, labour conditions, manufacturing, power and fuel, transport, regional settlement and plans for future development. Contemporary statistics, maps and explanatory text provide a valuable record of the state's economy, infrastructure and population at the beginning of the 1950s.

The numerous period photographs offer a fascinating visual portrait of Melbourne and regional Victoria, encompassing Parliament House, Collins Street, the Ovens Valley, agricultural districts, factories, transport networks and rural industries. Particularly evocative sections document wool production, fruit-growing, winemaking and canning, while the publication's references to post-war immigration, soldier settlement, industrial expansion and the forthcoming 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games firmly place it within a transformative chapter of Victorian history.

Produced as the Australian Publicity Council's inaugural publication, this uncommon first edition retains its distinctive original spiral-bound presentation. The colourful front cover depicts Melbourne's Government House, while the striking rear cover carries a full-page Australian flag beneath the welcoming inscription, "Welcome to Australia." Combining attractive mid-century graphic design with considerable historical and photographic interest, it is an excellent record of Victoria's post-war confidence, development and vision for a "golden future."
