Grimm's Fairy Tales
Carefully Chosen From The Collection
By The Brothers Grimm
Published by Partridge Publishers: London c1935 (undated)
In Original Decorated Bindings With Colour Frontis

" Grimm's Fairy Tales brings together a substantial selection of the enduring folk and fairy stories collected and preserved by the German brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. Drawn from the great nineteenth-century collection that became one of the foundations of European children's literature, these tales combine magic, adventure, danger and morality in the distinctive tradition of old European folklore, populated by kings and queens, witches, enchanted animals, giants, clever children and mysterious creatures.

This generously proportioned collection contains a particularly broad range of Grimm stories, including such celebrated tales as Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Rumpel-Stilts-Kin, The Frog Prince, The Brave Little Tailor, The Golden Goose, The Twelve Dancing Princesses, The Seven Ravens and The Elves and the Shoemaker, alongside many less frequently anthologised stories. The selection retains much of the darker character and moral complexity for which the original Grimm tales are renowned, making the volume an appealing representation of the stories before the more heavily softened modern adaptations became dominant.

Published by Partridge Publishers of London, this attractive undated edition appears to date from approximately the 1930s and is presented in its original pale blue decorated cloth binding, with striking black Art Nouveau-influenced ornamentation extending across the front board and spine. The volume is further enhanced by its colour frontispiece, while the substantial contents extend to numerous individual tales across nearly 300 pages. Despite some expected age-related wear and fading to the cloth, particularly at the spine, it remains an appealing period edition of one of the great classics of traditional fairy literature."
