Topham. Educated at home, she had a somewhat sheltered childhood. After the death of her father in 1907, Pocock and her mother moved to Bexhill, Sussex, where she pursued her interest in painting, playing the piano, and writing. She obtained her ATCL (a music diploma) from Trinity College in 1912, and published her first book in 1919."General wear and some chipping to dustjacket as shown. Tess And Tony
By Doris A. Pocock (1890 - 1974)
Published by Ward, Lock & Co Limited: Melbourne c1925 (Undated)

"Tess and Tony is a spirited early twentieth-century girls' adventure story by Doris A. Pocock, a prolific author known for her lively school tales and wholesome juvenile fiction. Set within the world of youthful friendship, outdoor escapades and the forming of character, the novel follows the affectionate but contrasting pair—Tess, the steady influence, and Tony, the impulsive mischief-maker—as they navigate the small triumphs and challenges that shape their growing independence. Pocock's writing is warm, vivid and grounded in the values of loyalty, courage and optimism, traits that made her books favourites among young readers across the British Empire.

This Melbourne-printed Ward, Lock edition, likely from around 1925, reflects the publisher's strong presence in Australia and its commitment to bringing quality British juvenile fiction to local audiences. Surviving Australian-issue copies of Pocock's works are now relatively scarce, adding interest for collectors of children's literature from the interwar period. This engaging and character-driven tale will appeal to admirers of classic girls' fiction, collectors of early 20th-century juvenile editions, and readers drawn to bright, spirited stories celebrating friendship and youthful adventure."
