Wild Adventures Round The Pole, or, The Cruise Of The 'Snowbird' Crew In The 'Arrandoon'
By Gordon Stables
Illustrated In Colour by W.E. Webster
Published by Henry Frowde: London c1915 (undated - prize plate dated 1917)
In Original Decorated Cloth Bindings - All Illustrations Present

"In Search Of The Southland - Australia's Story forms part of The Romance of the World series edited by Herbert Strang and presents a richly illustrated account of the discovery and early exploration of Australia. Drawing upon the narratives of explorers, navigators and historians including Matthew Flinders, William Howitt and Samuel Bennett, the work traces the gradual unveiling of the southern continent from the earliest European voyages to the great expeditions of Cook, Bass and Flinders. Written for younger readers, it combines historical fact with an engaging sense of adventure and discovery.

The volume vividly recreates many of the defining episodes in Australia's early history, including the voyages of Luis de Torres, Tasman and Pelsart, the mystery of La Pérouse, the wreck of the Vergulde Draeck, and Captain Cook's charting of the eastern coast. Beautifully illustrated throughout by W. R. C. Smith, the book's colour plates and maps bring these dramatic encounters to life, depicting shipwrecks, meetings with Indigenous Australians and the hardships faced by the early explorers and seafarers who ventured into unknown waters.

Published by Henry Frowde and Hodder & Stoughton around 1910, this charming Edwardian edition remains an appealing piece of Australiana and juvenile historical literature. Presented in its original decorated cloth bindings and retaining all illustrations as called for, it also carries a 1912 Holy Trinity Sunday School prize plate, adding an attractive touch of provenance and providing a glimpse into the book's early history as a treasured school award."
