"Schrag's Latest Illustrated Guide to Nuremberg is an attractive pre-First World War English-language guide to one of Germany's most historically important cities. Designed for foreign visitors, it provides practical information on hotels, restaurants, transport, banks, churches, museums and other services, together with a street index and descriptions of Nuremberg's principal buildings, monuments and places of interest. The guide also outlines the city's history, from its medieval development and imperial associations to its commercial and cultural prominence.

This seventh enlarged and improved edition contains twenty illustrations, including period photographs of Nuremberg's streets, architecture and historic landmarks. Numerous contemporary advertisements for local hotels, restaurants, manufacturers and souvenir merchants appear throughout, offering a fascinating record of the city's tourist trade and commercial life immediately before the First World War. Translated into English by Thomas F. A. Smith, the guide presents Nuremberg as it appeared before the extensive destruction suffered during the Second World War.

Published by J. L. Schrag of Nuremberg circa 1913, this compact guide retains its large folding colour street map, titled Neuester Plan von Nürnberg. The map is present in very good condition and shows the old city, railway lines, tram routes, surrounding districts, public buildings and other important locations in considerable detail. An evocative piece of early twentieth-century European travel literature, the volume is especially appealing for its combination of historical content, period advertising, photographic illustrations and substantial foldout city plan."
