"Lost In The Australian Bush is the story of
Isaac and Jane, the children of Hannah and Joseph Cooper. When Joseph died their widowed mother married Stephen Duff, their sibling Frank was the child of this marriage. In 1864 the three children were lost in the bush for nine days, before being found by Aboriginal Australian tracker King Richard (Jungunjinanuke). Their story became famous both in Australia and Britain.
The story is influenced by an account of the lost Duff-Cooper children, published in the Argus, 1864. Each slide depicts a different event in the story. Slides are accompanied by a poem with each verse meant to be read with a particular slide. The story appears to have captured the imagination overseas, epitomising Christian virtues and "best British qualities" found in the colony. The last four verses are an admonition to other children to remember Jennie's faith. The story is told using life models in studio backdrops."
BOOK SELLER NOTE: There is no reference in word or image to the
Aboriginal Australian tracker King Richard (Jungunjinanuke) in any of the slides.
