" That Eye the Sky is the third novel by acclaimed Australian author Tim Winton, first published in Melbourne by McPhee Gribble Publishers in 1986. Narrated in the distinctive voice of twelve-year-old Ort Flack, the story begins when his father is gravely injured after driving the family ute into a roadside tree. The accident throws the Flack household into turmoil as Ort watches his mother struggle to hold the family together, his sister retreat into anger and his grandmother become increasingly lost within herself.

Against this domestic crisis, Ort becomes convinced that a mysterious light in the sky is watching over him. The arrival of the charismatic stranger Henry Warburton brings apparent comfort and spiritual promise, but also further uncertainty. Through Ort's innocent yet perceptive narration, Winton explores grief, faith, love and the fragile boundary between the natural and supernatural, while vividly evoking the isolation and atmosphere of rural Western Australia.

Presented here is the genuine 1986 first edition, issued in red cloth bindings with its original illustrated, unclipped dustjacket. Published only two years after Winton received the Miles Franklin Award for Shallows, the novel belongs to the formative period of one of Australia's most important contemporary writers and displays many of the themes that would define his later work: family, landscape, spiritual longing and lives tested by sudden misfortune.
