"
Round London - An Album of Pictures from Photographs of the Chief Places of Interest In and Round London, published in 1896, is a beautifully curated visual tour of late Victorian London. The book features a rich collection of black-and-white photographs capturing the city's most iconic landmarks, bustling streets, grand public buildings, historic churches, royal residences, parks, and bridges. Each image is accompanied by brief captions or descriptions that provide historical context or highlight architectural and cultural significance, offering readers a glimpse into the capital at the height of the British Empire.
Intended as both a souvenir and a guidebook, the album appeals to tourists, Londoners, and admirers of the city's grandeur. It celebrates London's blend of tradition and modernity, from medieval structures like the Tower of London to the vibrant activity of areas such as Piccadilly, Westminster, and the River Thames. Round London serves not only as a pictorial record of the era but also as a testament to the pride Victorians took in their capital, preserving the visual charm and civic pride of a world city on the brink of the 20th century."
