1890 Jubilee Hall; or No Place Like Home by Mrs Greene Antique Fiction Book

Jubilee Hall; or No Place Like Home
By Mrs Greene
Published by T. Nelson And Sons: London 1890 1st Edition
Original Decorated Cloth Covers - Prize From Kangaroo Flat Presbyterian Sabbath School

"Jubilee Hall; or, "There's No Place Like Home" is a charming late Victorian novel by the Hon. Mrs. Greene, issued by T. Nelson and Sons in 1890 and presented here in its attractive original pictorial cloth bindings. Typical of the wholesome and morally uplifting fiction that made Nelson publications so popular with family readers, the work explores themes of home, duty, faith, and the importance of kindness and perseverance. Enhanced by numerous illustrations throughout, the volume offers a delightful glimpse into the values and domestic ideals of the late nineteenth century.

Written by the Hon. Mrs. Greene, already known for works such as The Grey House on the Hill and The Babe i' the Mill, the story combines engaging narrative with gentle moral instruction in the manner of Victorian juvenile and family literature. The title itself, echoing the familiar sentiment "There's No Place Like Home," reflects the central importance placed upon family life and the nurturing influence of a loving household. Richly illustrated scenes accompany the text, adding considerable charm and helping to bring the characters and settings vividly to life.

This 1890 first edition survives in its original decorated blue cloth covers, attractively stamped in gilt and colours with floral motifs to both the front board and spine. Particularly appealing is the contemporary presentation inscription recording its award by the Kangaroo Flat Presbyterian Sabbath School to Hugh Shearer in December 1892, providing a pleasing piece of Australian provenance and illustrating the role such books played as prizes and rewards within nineteenth-century religious communities. A handsome and evocative example of Victorian illustrated fiction with a direct connection to colonial Australia."
