A record from Trove contains the following information: "WARRNAMBOOL - The death occurred on Thursday night of Mr David Bowtell who for the past 50 years had been associated with Tasmanian and Australian journalism. Of this extended period 25 years were spent the "Warrnambool Standard" and he was still connected with that journal on the date of his death. He was formally editor of the, Kyneton "Observer" and the "Horsham Times" Iand in his early years was one of the staff of the Hobart "Mercury". His age was 74 and he leaves a widow and grown up family.""William Makepeace Thackeray (1811 - 1863) was a British novelist, author and illustrator. He is known for his satirical works, particularly his 1848 novel Vanity Fair, a panoramic portrait of British society, and the 1844 novel The Luck of Barry Lyndon, which was adapted for a 1975 film by Stanley Kubrick."General wear and fading to covers and spines as shown. Binding is very good with no loose pages. Lacking half of front blank endpaper in volume 2 otherwise complete. Light foxing to prelims only with the vast majority of pages clean and bright.
