Written when M'Ure was approximately eighty-five years old, the work draws upon ancient records, charters, civic documents, private manuscripts and the author's own long experience of the city. M'Ure—also styled John M'Ure alias Campbell—served as Clerk to the Registration of Sasines and was particularly well placed to record Glasgow's institutions, prominent citizens and remarkable transformation into an important centre of commerce.\n \u003c\/font\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\n \u003cfont color=\"#111111\" face=\"Arial\" size=\"4\"\u003e\n  \u003cbr\u003e\n \u003c\/font\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\n \u003cfont color=\"#111111\" face=\"Arial\" size=\"4\"\u003e\n  The work traces Glasgow from the foundation of its Episcopal See and succession of bishops and archbishops through its establishment as a Royal Burgh and subsequent civic development.
