1821 4vol The Works Of Robert Burns Antique Scottish Poetry Book Set Suit Rebind

The Works Of Robert Burns - Including His Letters To Clarinda, And The Whole Of His Suppressed Poems. With An Essay On His Life, Genius And Character
By Robert Burns
Printed by Richards And Co: London 1821
Complete 4 Volume Set - Poor Binding - Suit Rebind Or Enjoy As Is

"This scarce 1821 London edition of The Works of Robert Burns presents the poet's writings across four volumes and includes some of the most significant ancillary material ever associated with his oeuvre. Alongside his poems and songs, the set incorporates Burns's celebrated Letters to Clarinda—his intimate correspondence with Agnes Maclehose—and the full collection of his previously "suppressed" poems, bringing together material that earlier editors had often omitted or sanitised. The volumes also feature a substantial essay examining Burns's life, character, and artistic genius, providing early nineteenth-century insight into the poet's place in literary history and the social forces that shaped him.

Printed by Richards & Co. for the editor, this edition reflects the transitional scholarly interest of the period, combining biography, personal correspondence, and canonical works in a unified presentation. The set shown bears contemporary ownership inscriptions dated 1823, adding historical charm and provenance. The bindings are in poor condition—worn leather, detached or fragile boards, and exposed spines—making the set an excellent candidate for professional rebinding or appreciative display in its present distressed state. This early collected edition will appeal to Burns collectors, lovers of Scottish literature, and enthusiasts of early nineteenth-century printed poetry."

Heavy wear to covers and spines. One cover missing, a couple of others detached. Text blocks are in good condition although front endpapers loose in Volume IV. All volumes are prime candidates for a rebind. Pages with age toning etc but otherwise clean and well presented. A nice early edition and somewhat scarce Burns work in excellent reading condition. Please study photos to further understand condition.
