Cornelii - Taciti Opera refers to the works (opera) of Cornelius Tacitus, a prominent Roman historian and senator from the late 1st and early 2nd centuries AD. His full name is often abbreviated as C. Cornelius Tacitus, where "C." stands for Gaius. Tacitus is best known for his detailed and critical accounts of the Roman Empire, particularly during the reigns of emperors from Augustus to Domitian. His works are valued for their incisive analysis of power, politics, and morality. The phrase "C. Cornelii - Taciti Opera" is typically used in scholarly or classical editions of his works, often in Latin, to signify a collected edition of Tacitus's writings."General wear, fading and rub through with some loss to covers and spine as shown. Small contemporary inscriptions present on front and back endpapers otherwise pages clean and unmarked. Pages are overwhelmingly bright with only subtle age toning. Virgilii Maronis Opera, ad fidem editionis Heynianæ plerumque exhibita. The text follows principally the celebrated recension of Christian Gottlob Heyne (1729-1812), one of the foremost classical scholars of the eighteenth century, whose critical editions of Virgil were highly influential. Printed entirely in Latin, the volume brings together Virgil's great surviving works, including the pastoral Eclogues (Bucolica), Georgics and the Aeneid, cornerstones of classical literature and among the most influential texts of Western civilisation.

The title page carries an attractive engraved vignette of the poet and records an unusually extensive group of London booksellers and publishers — J. The short Latin preface specifically discusses Heyne's standing as an interpreter of Virgil and explains the preparation of this compact edition. An early handwritten ownership inscription dated 1829 appears on the front blank, giving the book an appealing documented nineteenth-century history only fourteen years after publication.

The volume remains in a handsome period half-leather binding, with brown leather spine and corners over marbled paper-covered boards. The spine is decorated in gilt with ruled compartments, ornamental gilt devices and the title "VIRGILIUS", while the marbled boards display the wonderfully aged surface expected of a book now more than 210 years old. Showing genuine wear from generations of ownership but retaining considerable period character, this is a particularly appealing early-19th-century edition of one of antiquity's greatest poets — suitable for collectors of Virgil, classical literature, Latin texts, Regency-era books and early leather bindings.

  "

Light wear and fading to covers and spine as shown.
