" Samuel Howitt (1756/57 - 1822) was an English painter, illustrator and etcher of animals, hunting, horse-racing and landscape scenes. He worked in both oils and watercolors. Howitt was particularly noted for the illustrations in (Captain) Thomas Williamson's Oriental Field Sports (1807), based on sketches made by the author in India . "

All plates present as called for. Both volumes were rebound many years ago with modest at best cloth bindings that have since discoloured as shown. Bindings are however in excellent structural condition and the text blocks have been wonderfully preserved as a result. Pages with general age toning. No markings or inscriptions. No loose pages.
