1807 The Annual Register For The Year 1805 Antiquarian British History Book

The Annual Register, or A View of the History, Politics and Literature
For The Year 1805
Published by J. Wright: London 1807

" The Annual Register, or A View of the History, Politics, and Literature for the Year 1805 is a comprehensive chronicle of global events, with a particular focus on British affairs during a momentous year in the Napoleonic Wars. One of the central highlights of this edition is the detailed account of the Battle of Trafalgar and the death of Admiral Lord Nelson, marking a decisive British naval victory over the combined French and Spanish fleets. The volume offers extensive coverage of European political developments, parliamentary proceedings in Britain, diplomatic correspondence, and domestic matters such as economic concerns, legislative debates, and public sentiment during wartime. In addition to political and military history, the book includes sections on literature, state papers, and obituaries of notable figures.

Regarding Australia, the 1805 edition contains references to the expanding British colonial presence in New South Wales. These notes touch on the challenges of governance, transportation of convicts, and the difficulties faced by settlers in the fledgling colony. Reports include details of exploration efforts and ongoing struggles with the harsh environment and Indigenous resistance. Although relatively brief compared to European content, the inclusion of Australia reflects its growing importance within the British imperial framework. This edition of The Annual Register provides a valuable snapshot of early 19th-century global affairs, blending narrative history with archival detail.

The Annual Register (originally subtitled "A View of the History, Politicks and Literature of the Year ...") is a long-established reference work, written and published each year, which records and analyses the year's major events, developments and trends throughout the world. It was first written in 1758 under the editorship of Edmund Burke, and has been produced continuously since that date. The Annual Register was created in 1758 by the publishers James and Robert Dodsley. On 24 April 1758 the Dodsley brothers signed a contract with Edmund Burke (1729-97) to write and edit the material for The Annual Register, which was conceived as an annual publication which would review the history, politics and literature of the day."
