" William Beattie (1793 - 1875) was a Scottish physician, and poet. In 1836 he travelled in Switzerland and in the land of the Waldenses. He was a frequent contributor to periodicals, and during this period he published two poems — John Huss and "Polynesia" — Ports and Harbours of the Danube, and a series of descriptive and historical works, beautifully illustrated by his friend and fellow traveller, the well-known W. H. Bartlett, on " Switzerland ", "Scotland", "The Waldenses", Castles and Abbeys of England, and The Danube."

General fading and wear with some rub through/loss to covers and spines as shown. Clean endpapers with no inscriptions or evidence of prior ownership. Pages generally clean and well presented.
