Blair's Chronological & Historical Tables, From the Creation to the Present Time (1844), published by Longman, Brown, Green, and Longmans, London, is a monumental reference work presenting a continuous and meticulously organized timeline of world history. Based on the original chronological system devised by Rev. John Blair, this expanded nineteenth-century edition incorporates numerous revisions and corrections from leading scholars, aligning biblical chronology with secular historical records. The work traces events from the Creation through to the mid-nineteenth century, cross-referencing the rise and fall of empires, dynastic successions, and major religious and cultural milestones. Included is a detailed computation of St. Paul's chronology, linking the Exodus with the building of Solomon's Temple to harmonize sacred and historical timekeeping.
Beautifully arranged in tabular form for clarity and comparison, the volume exemplifies Victorian scholarship's passion for order, accuracy, and moral history. It served as both an academic tool and a devotional aid, bridging scriptural authority with the expanding knowledge of global antiquity. This 1844 edition stands as a remarkable artefact of its era's intellectual rigor and religious conviction, appealing strongly to collectors of early chronological works, students of biblical history, and admirers of nineteenth-century scholarly printing and cartography.
