The National Burns by Rev George Gilfillan - c1880 - Antique History Book

The National Burns Including The Airs Of All The Songs & An Original Life Of Burns
Edited by Rev George Gilfillan
Published by William MacKenzie: Glasgow (undated) c1880

"Robert Burns (1759 - 1796), also known familiarly as Rabbie Burns, was a Scottish poet and lyricist. He is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland and is celebrated worldwide. He is the best known of the poets who have written in the Scots language, although much of his writing is in a "light Scots dialect" of English, accessible to an audience beyond Scotland. He also wrote in standard English, and in these writings his political or civil commentary is often at its bluntest."

Heavy wear to cover with some damage to top right hand corner of spine as shown. Front cover/hinge is almost loose - common for books of this size and age. There are no owner inscriptions or library marks. Light foxing to prelims with the vast majority of the book age toned but clean. There appears to have been some glue or similar drop on the top of the text block near the spine and this has caused about 20 of the middle pages to bind together to a depth of about 4mm near the hinge (see photo of the worst of it). This has resulted in a very minor tear to this small section of these few pages. Condition downgraded due to these reasons else book is in good order with wonderful plates and no loose pages. Please study photos to understand condition. Happy to provide more photos on request.
