"George Nicholson (7 December 1847 - 20 September 1908), was an English botanist and horticulturist, amongst 60 awarded the Victoria Medal of Honour by the Royal Horticultural Society in 1897 for their contributions to horticulture. He is noted for having edited " The Illustrated Dictionary of Gardening ", produced as an eight-part alphabetical series between 1884 and 1888 with a supplement, and published by L. Upcott Gill of London. It was also published in New York in 1889 by The American Agriculturist in 4 Volumes."


A complete 4 volume 1st Edition set.General wear, fading and some scuffing to covers and spines as shown. The back cover of volume 3 has a corner bend and a few marks. Each of the 4 volumes has a full page colour frontis piece as shown. All 4 volumes are complete with all illustrations and plates. Volume 4 has some light foxing to prelims otherwise pages across all volumes very clean, bright and well presented. Decorated covers are beautiful and this set presents very well.
