"This scarce secondhand dealers record book offers a fascinating insight into the social and economic conditions faced by Melburnians during the middle of World War 2. The transaction entries in this book span the time period from 26/10/1942 to 23/09/1943. The records provide details as to the various people trading in or "pawning" their goods during times of extreme economic hardship. Through this valuable record we can learn of actual used market prices for a variety of goods during this important time in the worlds history. From the name and address of the owner, to highly detailed descriptions of the goods and price paid, the stories are quite remarkable. A useful source for historians and Melbourne related geneaolgists alike, this rare record would be an outstanding addition to any Australian History lovers library."
