"Robert Jamieson (1802-1880) was a minister of the Church of Scotland and religious author, who served as Moderator of the General Assembly in 1872.

A Practical and Explanatory Commentary on the Old Testament by Rev. Robert Jamieson is a detailed, verse-by-verse guide to the Old Testament, designed to make Scripture accessible to lay readers while offering theological depth for serious study. Jamieson's commentary blends linguistic insights, historical context, and practical moral lessons, showing how the narratives, prophecies, and laws of the Old Testament connect to Christian faith and practice. The inclusion of finely engraved steel illustrations adds a visual dimension, bringing biblical events and characters to life for 19th-century readers.

Bound with this is The Holy Bible with a Devotional and Practical Commentary, published by James S. Virtue of London around 1860, which presents the full text of the Scriptures with extensive devotional notes. These notes focus on personal application, moral reflection, and spiritual encouragement, making the volume a comprehensive resource for both private devotion and family worship. Together, the two works form a richly instructive and visually impressive Bible commentary set, reflecting the Victorian era's passion for combining scholarship, faith, and art in religious publishing."
