"Andrew Jervise's Epitaphs & Inscriptions from Burial Grounds & Old Buildings in the North East of Scotland - Volume II (David Douglas: Edinburgh, 1879) continues the author's monumental work documenting the memorials, inscriptions, and epitaphs scattered throughout the kirkyards and historic sites of northern Scotland. Published posthumously, this second volume expands upon Jervise's earlier surveys, providing meticulous transcriptions and detailed notes that preserve invaluable local history and genealogical data. His work offers a rare and respectful window into the lives, language, and legacy of generations past, capturing the poetry and pathos of Scottish memorial tradition.
Jervise complements his inscriptions with extensive antiquarian commentary, weaving together biographical sketches, historical anecdotes, and local lore that illuminate the social fabric of rural Scotland. His dedication to accuracy and preservation lends this volume enduring importance as both a genealogical reference and a cultural record. This book will appeal to genealogists, historians of Scottish heritage, and collectors of regional antiquarian works."
General fading to covers with light rub through. Rear outer spine hinge has split however covers are strong. Title page cluster detached and one other page near it otherwise binding is good. Some annotations. Pages are clean with a pleasant aged patina. A decent, complete copy that presents well. Please study photos to further understand condition.
