" This substantial 18-volume collection of Heinrich Heine's Sämtliche Werke (Complete Works), published in Hamburg by Hoffmann und Campe in 1876, represents a finely produced late 19th-century collected edition of one of Germany's most important literary figures. The collection includes Volumes 1-18, a broad sweep of Heine's writings, from the celebrated Reisebilder and Englische Fragmente through Über Deutschland, Französische Zustände, Vermischte Schriften, and multiple volumes of Dichtungen. Issued uniformly, the edition reflects the enduring popularity of Heine's work in the decades following his death, and the continued authority of his original publisher.

Bound in matching half leather with marbled boards and endpapers, the volumes feature gilt spine decorations and titling, with individual volume numbering. The collection remains complete across 1-18 volumes, a notable survival given the tendency for such multi-volume works to become broken over time. Condition is good to very good for age overall: bindings are firm but with visible wear, including rubbing, scuffing, and some cracking to spines and joints; one volume shows heavier wear and splitting. Internally, the pages are clean and complete with moderate age toning and scattered foxing, typical of the period, but remain highly presentable.

A handsome and scholarly 19th-century German literature set, offering both decorative shelf appeal and substantial literary content. Complete Heine collected editions in uniform contemporary bindings are increasingly difficult to source, particularly in full runs such as this.
