1853 Quentin Durward by Sir Walter Scott Antique Fiction Book In French

Oeuvres De Walter Scott - Quentin Durward
By Sir Walter Scott
Printed For Furne, Libraire Editeur: Paris 1853

" An attractive mid-19th century French edition of Quentin Durward by Sir Walter Scott, translated by A. Defauconpret, and published in Paris by Furne, Pagnierre & Perrotin, 1857. Part of the Œuvres de Walter Scott series, this edition features a finely engraved frontispiece illustration by A. Adam, printed by Bertauts in Paris.

Bound in a period half-leather binding with marbled paper boards, gilt-tooled spine decorations, and red leather title labels, this handsome continental edition reflects the high-quality French craftsmanship of the era. The novel, first published in 1823, follows the adventures of the young Scottish archer Quentin Durward as he becomes entangled in the political intrigue of 15th-century France under King Louis XI. This translation helped introduce Scott's romantic historical style to French audiences and remains a cornerstone of 19th-century European literary publishing."
