" This handsome early Cadell "New Edition" of The Miscellaneous Prose Works of Sir Walter Scott, Bart. (1836) features five consecutive volumes (Nos. 22-26 in the complete series), comprising the celebrated Tales of a Grandfather - Scotland. Each volume includes both a vignette title page and a finely engraved frontispiece. These charming works were originally written by Scott for his grandson, John Hugh Lockhart, and retell the history of Scotland from its earliest days to the Union with England in an accessible, narrative form. Blending fact, legend, and patriotic warmth, Scott's prose captures the heroism of Scottish kings, the conflicts of clans, and the shaping of a national identity, making the series both educational and deeply entertaining.

Published in Edinburgh by Robert Cadell—Scott's long-time publisher—this 1836 "New Edition with Notes" reflects the author's enduring popularity and the Victorian appetite for historical instruction told through story. The set's uniform bindings and illustrative plates add to its collectability, even though later volumes of the complete Miscellaneous Works are not present. This edition will appeal to collectors of early Scottish literature, admirers of Sir Walter Scott's historical narratives, and those interested in the romantic retelling of Scotland's storied past."

Light wear to covers and spines as shown with some minor rub through, scuffing and sun fading. Probable late 1800's rebinds. Some light foxing present, mainly to prelims with the vast majority of all volumes being clean. Some light staining to some vignette's/frontis'. Binding is excellent with no loose pages.
