1710-1740 Large Illustrated King James Folio Bible 64 Copper Plates Folio 39cm

King James Folio Bible
With 64 Illustrated Copper Engravings
Publisher: Cannot confirm as lacks title page c1710 - 1740
Note On Dates: Without the title page we cannot attribute the printer, but the combination of typography, layout, plates, and prefatory matter is unmistakably early Georgian London work.

A magnificent early-18th-century folio King James Bible (39 × 25 cm; 2.71 kg), richly illustrated with 64 full-page copper engravings, including 40 plates spread throughout the Old Testament and a further 24 grouped at the rear.

Begins with The Preface, The Preface to the Reader, and the extensive History of the Lives, Actions, Travels, Sufferings & Deaths of Jesus Christ and His Twelve Apostles, leading into the full KJV text with introductions and annotations.

Beautifully rebound in the 1990s in high-quality three-quarter calf over marbled boards. Opens flat, reads easily, very solid and fully useable—a genuine pleasure to handle. The modern binding is exceptionally well executed and renders the volume fully useable, opening flat with no strain to gatherings. Internally, the leaves show the expected toning, occasional spots, small edge nicks and some browning surrounding plates, but the text remains clear and highly readable. A visually impressive and very substantial example of an early-Georgian English folio Bible, notable for its large plate suite, and preserved in a fine modern binding.

Lacking the title-page (as rebound), but clearly an early-Georgian illustrated folio Bible printed in London c.1710-1740.

A striking display Bible and an impressive example of early Georgian printing.

Lacking the original general title-page (as often the case in rebound early folios); preliminaries begin at The Preface. Text-block crisp and clean overall for a Bible of this period, with expected age-toning, occasional foxing, and minor smudging or handling marks. Scattered marginal browning, particularly around the edges of plates; some plates show the usual offsetting onto facing pages. Copper-engraved plates are generally strong impressions; toning varies, with some darker margins from age and handling. Modern endpapers clean and secure; no loose leaves. No evidence of insect damage, mould, or active deterioration. Overall a handsome, robust, and very readable early-18th-century folio Bible, well-preserved in a high-quality modern binding, with the text clear and legible throughout and an unusually large complement of plates (64). Includes an heirloom inscription from the Mitchell Family in 1887 (as shown). Please study photos to further understand condition.

Size 39cm x 25cm x 5cm - 2.71kg
