"James Thomson (c. 11 September 1700 - 27 August 1748) was a Scottish poet and playwright, known for his poems The Seasons and The Castle of Indolence, and for the lyrics of "Rule, Britannia!"

Heavy fading and rub through to leather covers and spine. Leather has now been conditioned to restore its resilient qualities. Includes all 9 illustration plates + frontis + vignette. Some foxing to front prelims with the rest of the book being clean with a pleasant aged patina. Book is very solid with no loose pages and excellent binding. Gilt edging in good order. Contemporary inscription present on a "shaped" blank endpaper at the front of the book as shown. Good condition overall. Please study photos to understand condition.
