"Frederic Shoberl (1775-1853), also known as Frederick Schoberl, was an English journalist, editor, translator, writer and illustrator. Shoberl edited Forget-Me-Not, the first literary annual, issued at Christmas "for 1823" and continued to edit the annual until 1834. In addition to these editing tasks, Shoberl was an illustrator. He created his own hand-coloured engravings for The World in Miniature: Hindoostan which was published in London by Ackermann in the 1820s. "

Likely original vellum bindings are fragile with the outer spines peeling on volumes 2 & 4 and some damage as shown. Includes volumes 1, 2, 4 & 5 lacking volumes 3 & 6. All plates are present across the 4 volumes being 8 in Volume 1, 19 in Volume 2, 23 in Volume 4 and 16 in Volume 5. There are 5 folding plates amongst the 66 in total. Plates are typically clean with only light ageing as are the pages. Several page clusters becoming (but not quite) loose across the volumes but mainly volume 2 being the most fragile. There are no inscriptions, just an old booksellers note and very light bookseller pencil numbering on the plates. Overall these volumes present a wonderful opportunity for the collector to acquire these scarce editions and enjoy them as they are or chase down the missing 2 volumes and have them all uniformly rebound. It is possible to view these books in person by prior appointment with us in Knoxfield, Victoria, Australia.
