1786 2vol Some Account Of The Alien Priories Antiquarian British History Books

Some Account Of The Alien Priories, And Of Such Lands As They Are Known To Have Possessed In ENGLAND AND WALES
Collected from the MSS. of John Warburton Esq and Dr. Ducarel.
A New Edition In 2 Volumes
Printed By and For J. Nichols: London 1786 New Edition
Complete 2 Volume Set

"John Warburton (1682 - 1759) was an antiquarian, cartographer, and Somerset Herald of Arms in Ordinary at the College of Arms in the early 18th century. John Nichols printed in 1779 in two volumes from the collections of Warburton and Ducarel Some Account of the Alien Priories, but the compilers' names were not mentioned. This omission was rectified in many copies issued in 1786 with a new title-page."

Binding is in poor condition with both covers on Volume 1 detached and Volume 2 lacking both covers - ideal candidate for a tasteful rebind. Includes 5 Folding Plates + 5 Single Plates across the 2 voluems. Prelims in volume 1 sit loose and are close to being detached in volume 2. The pages of both volumes are remarkably clean and bright with the plates presenting particularly well. Both volumes appear to be complete aside from binding issues. An interesting 2 volume antiquarian set well worthy of your consideration. Please study photos to further understand condition.

Size 18.5cm x 12cm x 2.5cm (approx x 2 volumes)
  • Volume One Has 110 Pages
  • Volume Two Has 236 Pages
