" John Foxe (c1516 - 1587) was an English clergyman, theologian, and historian, notable for his martyrology Actes and Monuments (otherwise Foxe's Book of Martyrs ), telling of Christian martyrs throughout Western history, but particularly the sufferings of English Protestants and proto-Protestants from the 14th century and in the reign of Mary I. The book was widely owned and read by English Puritans and helped to mould British opinion on the Catholic Church for several centuries."

Likely original bindings in heavily worn condition with both covers detached. The front and back prelim leafs sit loose within the text block. The text block commencing as firm with no loose pages from page 9 to 968. There are 29 plates present including frontis containing a total of 66 illustrations with multiple full page illustrations. The frontis and title page along with other loose prelim pages have varying degrees of damage as shown with chipping, tears, old repairs and minor loss prevalent. I have checked every page in this book and feel confident that every page is present from Frontis to Finis. There would likely have been blank endpapers which are lacking. Pages have some age staining, several tears without loss and some dogeared page corners however the vast majority of the book is clean and beautifully presented. A scarce copy in original binding worthy or repair or enjoy as is. It is possible to view this book by prior appointment with us in Knoxfield, Victoria, Australia.
