Recollections Of Squatting In Victoria - Then Called The Port Phillip District (From 1841 - 1851)
By Edward M. Curr
Published by George Robertson: Melbourne, Sydney & Adelaide 1883 1st Edition

"Edward Curr (1798 - 1850) was an English-born settler, pastoralist, and businessman who played a significant role in the early development of the Australian colonies. Born in Sheffield, England, he began his career in commerce before emigrating to Van Diemen's Land (now Tasmania) in 1820.

Curr initially worked as a merchant in Hobart Town, quickly establishing himself as an influential figure in the colony's trade and economic sectors. He later turned his attention to land acquisition, amassing substantial pastoral holdings in Van Diemen's Land and contributing to the expansion of agriculture in the colony. Known for his entrepreneurial spirit, Curr was instrumental in promoting the economic growth of the region.

In addition to his business ventures, Curr was an active participant in the colony's political life. He was a strong advocate for settlers' interests, often engaging in debates over land policies and colonial governance. His leadership and vision helped shape the economic and social structures of the early Australian colonies.

From 1844 until his death in 1850, he was extremely active in the movement for separation of Victoria from New South Wales. He became known as the "Father of Separation". Edward Curr passed away on 16 November 1850 in Melbourne, Victoria. He left behind a legacy as a pioneering settler and a key figure in the development of early Australian society."
