" From Trove Monday 20 July 1868: DEATH OF MRS. STANIFORTH. On Friday last, Amy Susanna Staniforth, aged 72 years, died at Baratta Station, Edward River, the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. Henry Ricketson. The deceased lady was the widow of William Staniforth, Esq., an eminent surgeon, who practised at Sheffield, where he died. He was a personal friend of the famous surgeon Sir Astley Cooper. Mrs. Staniforth soon after her husband's death, left England, with her family, for Munich, in Bavaria, the Staniforths being of German origin. For many years they resided at Munich, on the moderate competency left her by Mr. Staniforth. There her son Samuel was presented with a commission in the Bavarian army, while William, the eldest son, entered the British navy, and is now a post captain he having distinguished himself in the war against China, and in other places. The deceased lady possessed great accomplishments. As an authoress, she was well known to many of the English poets; and while residing in this part of Australia, she, four years ago, published " Australia, and other poems, " well known and appreciated by her friends here and in England. She was remarkable for her energy and industry.- As a wife and mother, she was probably never excelled in fidelity; as a friend, she was firm of purpose and inflexible.- She lived and died a Christian, and her spirit passed away as though she were in a tranquil sleep. Her remains are expected at Deniliquin, where they will be interred, between one and two o'clock on Monday, and her friends here will please take this notice. "
