" A finely bound four-volume set of Lessings Werke (The Works of Gotthold Ephraim Lessing), edited by Franz Bornmüller and published by the Bibliographisches Institut, Leipzig and Vienna. This is a critically revised and annotated German-language edition, presenting the major literary output of one of the Enlightenment's most important writers, including poetry, drama, criticism, and philosophical works. Lessing's influence on German literature, particularly in the development of modern drama and literary criticism, makes this a cornerstone collection for any serious library.

The set is attractively bound in half leather with richly tooled gilt-decorated spines and marbled boards, complemented by gilt top edges. The volumes are individually titled on the spine: Gedichte und Lustspiele, Dramen, Laokoon und Antiquarische Briefe, and Dramaturgie, reflecting the breadth of Lessing's work. The typography and layout are characteristic of late 19th to early 20th century German scholarly editions, and the presence of the Bornmüller editorial imprint strongly suggests a publication date circa 1890-1910.
