"George Walter Wicking was a 1930s Melbourne bookseller and writer of crime novels. Early reviews of his work praised the local settings of his crime novels because they encouraged local readers to substitute 'the imported "popular" novel' for equally valiable mysteries that took place in Victorian and Australian locales. Two of his novels, Boom-Time Gold and The Mysterious Valley, feature references to J.M. Walsh, who was another Victorian writer of crime novels."
