"Frederick James Furnivall FBA (1825 - 1910) was an English philologist, best known as one of the co-creators of the New English Dictionary. He founded a number of learned societies on early English literature and made pioneering and massive editorial contributions to the subject, of which the most notable was his parallel text edition of The Canterbury Tales. He was one of the founders of and teachers at the London Working Men's College and a lifelong campaigner against injustice."

Both volumes have been professionally rebound with sturdy boards and excellent assembly - probably c1950's/60's rebind. Pages are remarkably clean across both volumes with light age toning to prelims only. Large folding plates are in superb condition. The 1st volume contains 1 x large folding plate of London. The 2nd volume contains 8 large folding plates + 2 full page maps + 2 full page plans + 4 full page architectural plate engravings. A very nice, complete Shakspere history set in very good condition overall. Please study photos to further understand condition.
