" Peter William Barlow (1 Feb­ru­ary 1809 - 19 May 1885) was an Eng­lish civil en­gi­neer, par­tic­u­larly as­so­ci­ated with rail­ways, bridges (he de­signed the first Lam­beth Bridge, a cross­ing of the River Thames in Lon­don), the de­sign of tun­nels and the de­vel­op­ment of tun­nelling tech­niques. In 1864 he patented a de­sign for a cylin­dri­cal tun­nelling shield, and ob­tained a pro­vi­sional patent in 1868 for an im­proved de­sign."

Heavy wear and fading to covers with splits to outer spine hinge on both sides and across as shown - outer spine only just hanging on. Front inside hinge split and board is wobbly. Rear hinge in good shape. Small inscription at top of preface page as shown. Pages typically clean with no foxing. Some pages uncut and some of the plates have chipped edges as shown. Has a couple of blind stamps from The Burke & Wills Institute: Fryers Town. Included are 14 Folding Plates. A decent copy and wonderful to own as is or spend a few dollars and have a light restoration done. Please study photos to understand condition. Happy to provide more photos on request.
