Biographia Britannica Literaria, or, Biography Of Literary Characters Of Great Britain & Ireland Arranged In Chronological Order - Anglo Norman Period
By Thomas Wright
Published by John W. Parker: London 1846 1st Edition
(This is the second, follow up volume to the 1842 issued Anglo Saxon Period)

"Published in London by John W. Parker in 1846, this first edition of Biographia Britannica Literaria: Anglo-Norman Period by Thomas Wright continues the author's monumental biographical survey of early British and Irish literary figures, following his earlier 1842 volume on the Anglo-Saxon period. Wright, a distinguished antiquarian and philologist, meticulously traces the evolution of literature in Britain from the Norman Conquest onward, examining the writers, poets, scholars, and ecclesiastical chroniclers who shaped the intellectual life of the 12th and 13th centuries. Drawing extensively from manuscripts, charters, and contemporary chronicles, Wright reconstructs a vivid picture of literary activity during a formative era of linguistic and cultural transition.

The work stands as both a historical record and a critical study, bridging philology, history, and literary analysis to highlight the gradual blending of Norman French and Old English traditions into the foundations of Middle English literature. Through detailed biographies and textual evaluations, Wright situates each author within the broader currents of medieval learning and religious thought, offering valuable insight into the intellectual climate of post-Conquest Britain.

This 1846 volume, scarce in its original edition, represents a key resource for scholars of early English literature and medieval cultural history. It will appeal to collectors of antiquarian literary scholarship, students of medieval philology, and readers interested in the early development of British literary identity."
