" Charles Rollin (1661 in Paris - 1741 in Paris) was a French historian and educator. His literary work dates chiefly from the later years of his life, when he had been forbidden to teach. His once famous Ancient History (French: Histoire Ancienne, 12 vols., Paris, 1730-38) and the less generally read Roman History (Histoire Romaine, only five of nine volumes finished by the time of his death) were avowed compilations, uncritical and somewhat inaccurate. But they instructed and interested, generation after generation. "

General wear, fading and a few marks to covers. Minor splitting to a small section of the outer spine hinge on Volume 1 otherwise the spines are in very good condition. Volume 1 contains 7 fold out maps + 1 full page map + frontis & vignette. Volume 2 contains 3 fold out maps (1 with losss as shown) + 1 full page map + vignette. Inside hinges split however covers are secure and both books have good structural integrity with no loose pages. Pages generally clean with age toning but well presented. Plates remarkably clean and well presented. Good condition overall. Please study photos to further understand condition.
