1822 Dictionnaire Raisonné des Difficultés SIGNED Antique French Reference Book
Dictionnaire Raisonné des Difficultés - Volume 1
By J-Ch. Laveaux
Published by Chez Ledentu Libraire: Paris 1822
Signed by Author
"This is an early 19th-century Paris imprint of Dictionnaire Raisonné des Difficultés Grammaticales et Littéraires de la Langue Française by J.-Ch. Laveaux, published in 1822 by Ledentu, Quai des Augustins. This is Tome Premier (Volume I) of the revised and considerably augmented second edition. It includes the author's printed declaration that all copies are signed, and indeed features Laveaux's signature on the verso of the title leaf—an appealing detail for collectors of early linguistic scholarship.
The volume retains its contemporary full leather binding with decorative gilt borders, marbled endpapers, and red and green spine labels. The binding shows expected wear for its age including rubbing, edge wear, loss to the spine labels, and cracking at the joints, but remains intact and complete. A striking 1837 prize label from the
Collège Royal de Marseille
is affixed to the front pastedown, adding a layer of provenance and historical charm. Internally, the pages show toning, occasional foxing, and handling marks, but no missing leaves were observed.
Overall, this is a substantial and appealing early French linguistic dictionary with signature, prize provenance, and over two centuries of age. A worthy addition for collectors of French language reference works, early 19th-century Parisian printing, or signed scholarly volumes."
General wear, rub through and fading to covers and spine as shown. Binding is excellent with no loose pages. Carries a stunning prize plate from Collège Royal de Marseille and this copy is signed by the author as shown. Some light foxing present otherwise a pleasant aged patina persists. A stunning copy in very good condition overall. Please study photos to further understand condition.
